Charlie has succeeded in learning how to whistle a fourth. Daniel has been trying to teach him to whistle a Major third, and perhaps he will learn in time how to do that, but for now it seems like a pretty good accomplishment.

I've been teaching Charlie a new whistle, for no particular reason that I can discern. It's musical: I would describe it as two sixteenth-note D's followed by an eighth-note F-sharp, like this:

Charlie doesn't use this whistle in conversation yet, but we've heard him use it during his roll, which is typically part of the learning process. Interestingly, he often adds a third sixteenth-note at the beginning, making the call similar to the beginning of Beethoven't famous Fifth Symphony, but inverted. Perhaps more interestingly, he seldom whistles a real major third (D to F-sharp). He's much more likely to whistle a fourth.
